Ojibway Artist - Clemence Wescoupe

Birthplace: Long Plains Reserve, Manitoba

Clemence Wescoupe was born on the Long Plains Reserve near Portage la Prairie, Manitoba in 1951. An Ojibwa, he began painting in the early 1970's, and came into national prominence in the mid-1970's with his novel approach to line, colour and space. This painting is typical of his work in that period.

Currently his paintings, available nation-wide as prints or originals through exhibitions in major galleries, utilize more colour, but are as striking as his earlier work.
